MJP Welcomes Ms. Heela Roshan as the next Perkins Principal!
Ms. Roshan attended K-12 schools in Peshawar, Pakistan, as well as Prince George’s County, Maryland, where much of her family was based. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Towson University in Maryland, before beginning her career in education in the Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. Ms. Roshan taught second and third grade while also serving on the Instructional Leadership Team and the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) committee for four years at Watkins Mill Elementary. She then moved to Cambridge, Mass. to earn a Master of Education in Language and Literacy at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Ms. Roshan began working for the Boston Public Schools (BPS) in 2012 at the Sarah Greenwood School in Dorchester. While at the Greenwood, Ms. Roshan taught K2 and third grade, maintained a role as teacher leader for the third, fourth and fifth grade teams, led the PBIS and Literacy Leadership Team, and served as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team. Ms. Roshan also joined a partnership with Lesley University’s Center for Reading Recovery and began to work as the Literacy Collaborative coach for intermediate grades, providing coaching and professional development focused on literacy practices to teachers in grades 3-5.
After five years at the Greenwood, Ms. Roshan returned to the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2017 to pursue a Master of Education in School Leadership as a Conant Fellow. During her time in this program, she focused on building her leadership experience with a focus on inclusion through fellowships at the Curley K-8 and the Manning K-5, both in Jamaica Plain. Ms. Roshan most recently served as the Assistant Principal of the Richard J. Murphy School in Dorchester, where she has focused on building a shared understanding for all staff of effective instruction for English Learners and Students with Disabilities.
