Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
Boston Public Schools has identified Common Core Key Leadership Practices we must explicitly execute in our instructional programs at our school.
The Essential Actions for BPS Schools we must execute are: ♦ Know the Common Core shifts ♦ Use Common Core Aligned Materials & Resources ♦ Support Common Core Aligned Instructional Practices ♦ Focus our Professional Development on Common Core Standards & Best Practices ♦ Use Common Core Aligned Assessments ♦ Align School-Wide Quality School Planning & Daily Leadership Practices to the MACF/CCSS Curriculum
Our teachers use the Massachusetts Common Core State Standards in all content areas to drive how they develop lessons, analyze and utilize a variety of curricula resources and tools, and assess student performance and achievement.
Additionally, Boston Public Schools adopted a variety of curricula, programs, and resources to support students such as:
- Expeditionary Learning
- TERC Investigations
- Wilson Fundations
- FOSS Science
- Focus on K2
- BPS Instruction, Research & Development
- BPS Arts Curriculum
- BPS Physical Education Curriculum
Teachers are still expected to have students demonstrate mastery of the state standards using not only the above identified curricula tools but other high quality and rigorous resources that will complement that great work of teaching and learning. Curriculum, planning, and assessment begin with identifying student learning outcomes that are birthed from the standards, principles, and philosophies outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The anchor standards listed below are the foundations to clear, intentional, and successful teaching and learning.
